The attached image shows some SAT (libraries, bed, desks). Then we can make a group using all these SAT files, export to a file and then we can insert this as a group to all our projects. Using Object styles we can assign materials.Ĥ. You can export trimmed NURBS surfaces, regions, and 3D solids to an ACIS file in ASCII (SAT) format. It converts the model to a body object or to 3D solids and regions if the body is a true solid or a true region. In a Revit project, not family editor, we re-combine the SAT files to one, this is not so difficult, sometimes it is easy to use reference objects that we can later delete.ģ. You can import geometry objects stored in SAT (ASCII) files using the ASCISIN command.
If we want many materials we split to as many SAT files as the Moi styles.Ģ. So, I guess for now the only way is this.ġ. Not in family editor but directly in a project I think my workaround is better, I can assign materials directly in Revit. the only difference is that I have separate objects.
ACAD doesn't recognize layers, colors etc. Autodesk Viewer is a free online viewer for 2D and 3D designs including AutoCAD DWG, DXF, Revit RVT and Inventor IPT, as well as STEP, SolidWorks, CATIA and others. they also don't look good.SAT looks great.Ĭorrection. Yes, I guess it is the only way.but I really don't like having DWGs in Revit.
Software you need to have in your PC prior to conversion:1. Larger files will cause problems during opening of the DXF file. I think I know the answer but I have to ask! First of all, I want to make a disclaimer that this method only works for simple models such as an equipment. So, my question is if it is possible to make Revit read the SAT files correctly. We know the dimensions and they don't change. Windows, Apple, Linux, Android, and iOS compatible. I don't want to create families because these are furniture from IKEA so there is no reason for parameters. Convert CAD files made in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, CATIA, Solid Edge, NX, Creo, FreeCAD, TurboCAD, Rhino, and more from your browser.
SAT files provide data on the geometry of three-dimensional solids. I also tested with exporting to SAT from Revit, I get separated objects but all look the same.īut when I re-import, I get one object again.Īs a workaround, I export each "group" of objects as a SAT and I re-combine them in Revit. What is a(n) SAT file The SAT extension is used in CAD programs and for 3D animation. Find and select the ACIS file you want to import, or enter the name of the ACIS file at File Name. In the Import File dialog box, in the Files of type box, select ACIS (.sat). I should have known that Adesk has again problems with importing other formats By: Click Insert tab Import panel Import. Other objects, such as lines and arcs, are ignored. Revit, ignores all these and imports just one object, no way to assign materials except from the Objects Style dialog. You can import geometry objects stored in SAT (ASCII) files using the ASCISIN command. If I re-import in Moi, I see everything as it should, the objects are separated. I export to SAT using different styles, that makes a SAT with 3 materials, 3 objects, 3 layers. Then I have wood, metal and glass objects. It looks clean and it is really fast that way. Then I export to SAT and import to Revit. You will be using this software in order to open the file.
I've tried exporting the file from Faro CAM2 in IGES and STEP formats as well - IGES creates a zero-length file, and STEP fails to create any file at all.I use MoI3d for some quick modeling and most of the times for mass modeling. The first step is to download the CADSoftTools ABViewer software. XChangeworks also seems reluctant to import the VDA file i've tried creating from Faro CAM2, and crashes. I've managed to import something via XChangeworks, but it just seems to be a flat plane with none of the measured points on it. I have a feeling the problem may lie with the Faro CAM2 software rather than autocad, but I thought I'd ask here to see if there's something I can do or check, possibly to make AutoCAD more forgiving towards the file.
The file is there, and is certainly readable - I've opened and edited it with notepad. Apple Mac OS X: Spatial 3D ACIS Modeler Autodesk AutoCAD 2016 IMSI TurboCAD Deluxe v8 Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Ashlar-Vellum Cobalt Adobe Acrobat DC. I get the error message "unable to read the ACIS file" followed by the filename. I'm using ACAD 2000, and I'm trying to open SAT(ACIS) files from Faro CAM2 Measure V3.73 Build 105, with no joy.
